Jakob & scapegoat

<3 WORD! Jakób is also a friend of mine and not a right-wing extremist and neither an arms dealer or a weapon importer (WTF seriously?!) like media wants to let us believe. He is very cultivated and curious young man, interested in different cultures and languages around the world and a true defender of human rights. This whole case seems to be a bad joke, a real nightmare to Jakób and his family. He has been isolated in a mountain prison since last autumn now, and Indonesian authorities are using him as a political scapegoat to cover their own irregularities in trading: deforestation, gold and copper mines etc. which goes hand-in-hand with violation of human rights of indigenous Papuans...

I truly hope that authorities will do their job that he can be finally heard for real and liberated. Meanwhile all help from any media and his Swiss or global friends is more than welcome now. Please MP me if any questions!

Jakob Skrzypski was arrested last August in West Papua by the Indonesian Police and held, ever since, on trumped up charges of arms smuggling and "treason" of the state (allegedly by helping West Papua rebels in their conflict against Indonesia).

A farce from the start

Earlier this month, May 2019, he's been incredibly sentenced for five years imprisonment, in a show trial that would be the laughing stock of every respecting justice system - intimidating his lawyer and defence witnesses, against ridiculous (and extensive) evidence-fabrication

I've know Jakob for a while.
Gregarious Polish by blood, Swiss-based, he is one of the best adventure travellers of my generation in the world out there - a true inspirational traveller with admirable curiosity and fearless resolve to see the most unlikely places.

In one of his trips to remote West Papua, an area experiencing a decades-long conflict between Indonesia and separatists, he's been stung by clamping-down authorities who could not accept his independent travelling across parts of West Papua few foreigners dare go to, and mingling with locals who are all begging to tell the outside world their situation.

Jakub is not a journalist, he is a traveller.

He does not aspire to take position and change political crises like the ongoing troubles in Papua.

He simply aims at doing what true travellers do - to go out, see and learn, no matter what

To brand him a "traitor", to keep him in a 3sq mt prison for so many months, to punish him for simply travelling is one of the most despicable things a government could do to him as well as to all of us travellers.

Jakob is a traveller, and he is no more guilty of treason than me -or other backpackers out there - for repeatedly visiting difficult places all over the world.

His arrest, his show trial, is a stab in the back of an entire community, the travelling community.
It is a vile attempt to frighten us to stick to "tourist zones" that offer nothing in the way of learning and break the fog of ignorance

Jakob, you are not alone.
For as long as your plight continues, I'll do everything I can to stand by your side.
My facebook profile becomes your profile too - we are all in this boat but the Indonesian authorities will not have the last word.
We travellers will ...
